Occupation and Position.
Creative energy focus captain for dublab.com
What neighborhood/city do you closely identify with? What makes your community so unique?
I feel most at home in Silverlake and surrounding Eastern LA lands. When the straight lines of the city hit our hood they twist in new angles that hold hidden gems and wide open wonder. Our magic barrio has the power to set hearts and minds into motion.
What’s the greatest item that you’ve dug up at a local garage/estate sale? How much did it cost?
I found a really great framed poodle portrait at a local thrift shop for $5. The poodle is so fancy and poised with its leg draped over the edge of a green velvet couch. Sadly the pooch must be long gone to doggy heaven but it lives on in my heart and the wooden frame on my wall.
If you could interview one unsung hero, who would it be? Why?
Theodore Bafaloukos, the director of the Rockers. This Greek gent travelled to Jamaica in the golden age of roots reggae and dub and made a film that although a fictional story sheds a genuine glow on the culture. With legendary musicians as amateur actors he captured a spirit of vibrancy so wild and beautiful that it will make your eyebrows grow into majestic dreadlocks. I’d love to hear how giant some of those spliffs were.

What new projects you are building on right now?
There’s quite a lot shaking. We’ve just transformed dublab into a non-profit. This has been an exciting, energy intensive undertaking which should lead to great, creative opportunities. We’re launching a new film project called “dublab VisionVersion” featuring amazing bands performing live in super locations around LA. We’re also finishing a documentary film/creative music recycling mission called “Secondhand Sureshots.” We’re putting a fresh art experiment into motion with our pals at Creative Commons called “Into Infinity: an explloration of on and on and on and on and on….” We have some great live events coming up in LA and beyond including the fourth in our all night ambient/space/drone “Tonalism” series. I’m also finishing a new space themed Adventure Time album with Daedelus and editing an art book with Brandy Flower (HIT+RUN). In the meantime I’m focusing on breathing deeper and smiling big.

India Sweets and Spices is in Atwater. Everybody always thinks that strip is in Los Feliz b/c it is Los Feliz Blvd, but once you cross the river and the 5, you’re in Atwater until you go under the railroad bridge (towards San Fernando Rd) to Glendale.
