Weng Yunpeng’s new exhibition revisits his trademark “portraits” of televisions, as the artist explores the environment around and within the glow of a television box. What is this significance of the TV that is casting a spell over the populous? It is not politically ideological, but it is political. There is magic in the light of these machines, and it is this luminescence that Weng wants to portray. All trace of humans are eradicated from his paintings, leaving an eerie void and silence, with the only life coming from the flickering of images on the TVs…
