ART SEASONS is proud to present, Hybrid Society - Chapter I: The Infant Cycle, a brand new solo exhibition by Singaporean artist, David Chan. Not only is this David’s first ever exhibition in Beijing, David is also the first Singaporean artist to exhibit in a solo exhibition here.　

In this new series of obsession with hybrid babies, I attempt to illustrate contradicting ideas through multiple generations. Hybrid Society, in a wider context, is a narration of how I perceive people and their interaction with various colourful influences, and most importantly the ambiguous grey in-between areas.

In the very first stage, I concentrate on the very young, the infants. I wonder, if given our roles as providers, if we are exposing infants to our dubious morals and values. Through the dichotomy of innocent play and violent influence, I also question our ideas of nurturing and excessive sheltering. At the very beginning when infants are merely starving entities keen to be fed, only a fine line separates harm and concern.

Our society is an old palette that is trying to exert control over the intrusion of fresh synthetic and vibrant colours. What is the formula for wholesome existence when the values themselves are grey and tainted? Perhaps we should take comfort instead, and appreciate the overall messy mix, rather than trying to override and define specific hues.

Society will continue to exist, people will transcend shades throughout their lifetimes, and we will continue to be impressed by the most outstanding colours as long as we are given a chance to see them. But remember, as time passes, even the brightest and most outstanding colour will turn grey when mixed with others.
