Malcolm Sutherland - The Tourists

Malcolm Sutherland an animator hailing from Montreal, Canada, possesses the uncanny gift to illustrate people in their natural state and the way they interact with their environment. In The Tourists , Sutherland’s humorous nuances display a variety of tendencies that characterize the “typical tourists.” People are milling about on the sandy beach, their tender skins sizzling under the blazing sun; while others are disoriented and oftentimes oblivious to their carelessness. The light calypso number, “Out of Fire” by Law Invader provides the perfect soundtrack to this animated short.

Malcolm started his animation career in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta via the Quickdraw Animation Society, the first of his series of films was Robot City (2002) and then False Saints (2003) for the National Film Board of Canada. After studying astrophysics Malcolm went on to study classical printmaking at the Alberta College of Art and Design and has made many animated films, both independently and with the National Film Board of Canada.
