What you are listening to right now is the long lost classic from the Peruvian Amazon entitled, “Sonido Amazonico” by the chicha band, Los Mirlos. There are few compilations that can truly embody the spirit of a musical movement as arcane as 70’s psychedelic cumbia. Yet Olivier Conan, founder of Barbes records, unearthed some gems from his travels and accomplished just that with his release of The Roots of Chicha, a critically acclaimed compilation that’s having every DJ talking about it.

Aside from this comp, Conan also produced a terrific debut album (of the same name as this song) with fellow bandmates of Chicha Libre. It was a pleasure touring with these guys and hearing them perform covers on some of these obscure tracks.
