LE M È P R IS (CONTEMPT), 1963 is an elegant film–one of many classics from the prolific Godard.  The script is based off Alberto Moravia’s novel, Contempt .  At the core of the story is a slowly disintegrating marriage in the wake a post-Mussolini society coping with social reconstruction.  Godard adapts this modern tale into an inexorably self-conscious study of artistic compromise and marital deterioration. The feature length stars a stunningly gorgeous Bridgette Bardot (at her prime) and Michel Piccoli .

If you’ve seen it before, the second time around can be just as rewarding–pay special attention to the breathtaking landscape and architecture as Godard takes you through a series of iconic locales, from the famous Cinecittà studios to architect Adalberto Libera’s breathtaking cliff top Villa Malaparte overlooking the Mediterranean.

DIR: Jean-Luc Godard | 35mm, 103 min

LES MYSTÈRES DU CHÂTEAU DE DÉ, 1929
Director Man Ray’s classic avant-garde frolic through Villa Noailles, designed by architect Robert Mallet Stevens.

DIR: Man Ray | 35mm, 27 min

From the Hammer Museum: "Co-presented by the UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hammer, this eclectic series of films uses pre-existing private and public built environments as spaces of dread, liberation, alienation, or salvation, in concert or in conflict with the architect’s original vision."

The double feature screens on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th at 7pm.  This is a free show, yet tickets are required and are available at the Billy Wilder Theater Box Office one hour prior to start time.  Limit one ticket per person on a first come, first served basis.
