Black Mountain: “Wucan”

Raw psychedelic imagery centers around Black Mountain’s sun-baked desert jam.  Even stranger stock footage of ancient Central American rituals superimpose the Super-8 footage of the band performing their song, “Wucan”. A crossbred snapshot of Jarmusch’s Dead Man with Jodorowsky’s El Topo.  Such images immediately evoke the Golden Age of 2012 (aka: the termination of the Mayan calendar).

The DIY productions of this video was co-directed by Black Mountain and Shira Blustein with additional footage provided by Jon West. Their album, In the Future (2008) was released by Jagjaguwar, a really cool indie label.  The Canadian quintet creates great tones that are as epic and heavy as Black Sabbath or Zeppelin, with female/male duets that are call to mind the band, X.
