For some reason I have been listening to classical music again and after a lunch with R. Kim we rapped over the brilliance of Werner Herzog. Here is a beautiful clip from Herzog’s 1992 film “Lessons of Darkness” set to one of the absolute masters. Though this is an older films its worth seeing for a masterful visual documentation of the aftermath of the first Gulf War and the Kuwaiti oil fires.

I know…Werner has a special place in my heart. He has a gift for exploiting the space that exists between fiction and real life and creating some of the most haunting scenes. I especially like when he shoots on location in South America. He is one of the few directors that really know how to capture the wild, inexorable beauty of places like Peru.
Damn. I never knew about this film. It’s crazy how a man who makes mockumentary films can deliver emotional responses in this in depth documentary piece. The idea of humor and solemness being of one emotion is well demonstrated here.
A fave. Its a pretty haunting and hypnotic film. -we should screen it.
Yes, let’s gather our friends together this weekend and watch it at our studio!
