The last time I thoroughly enjoyed N.E.R.D. was with their debut album, “In Search Of…” where they fused gritty hip hop elements with Steely Dan. Their followup, “Fly or Die” was best forgettable, yet their latest album, “Seeing Sounds” shows that N.E.R.D. has been able to walk the fine line of nerdy cool hipster dance tracks with your, well…Steely Dan-ish elements. Their latest single, “Sooner Than Later” has your familiar Pharrell melancholy crooning reminscent N.E.R.D.’s “Provider” track. It’s a welcoming sound that reaffirms my fondness for N.E.R.D. street emo tendencies. Take a look at a behind the scenes look of the taping of this track.
