EM: Occupation and Position.
I’m a fitness and nutrition consultant by day, and all around eco-guru the rest of the time. I feel very fortunate that there are so many great opportunities for me to lend my “green” knowledge to so many diverse mediums. It really is the way of the future. Recognize!!
EM: What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes your community so unique?
Even though I’m Canadian, I’m a straight up L.A girl. I’ve been here 12 years and it definitely feels like home. I’ve lived in every possible neighborhood: West Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, West L.A, Beverly Hills etc. I am back in Hollywood where I originally landed 12 years ago, living at the foot of Runyon Canyon and it feels like this is exactly where I should be. I like that I am close to great restaurants and nightlife but that I can also walk out of my apartment and be hiking the canyon in the great outdoors with amazing views of the city.
EM: What’s the greatest item that you found at your local garage/estate sale?
I’m not really big on shopping at garage sales, although I did have a pretty legendary one at my place with a group of girlfriends a few years back. We all pocketed some serious paper. Other than that I check out the Fairfax flea market from time to time since it’s in my hood
EM: If you could interview one unsung hero, who would it be? Why?
She’s definitely not unsung but I’m going to go with poet, author and activist Maya Angelou. She’s an insanely strong, educated black woman but also possesses this crazy nurturing motherly quality. She is filled with life lessons and wisdom and is an inspiration for the kind of woman I strive to be.
EM: What’s your favorite youtube video?
This one is already a classic:
For some inexplicable reason I am mesmerized by this video:
EM: Where are your favorite local spots to eat?
-La Scala (An old-school Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills – the chopped salad is ridiculously addictive!)
-Izakaya (The baked crab hand rolls are off the chains)
-M Café (I usually go for the grilled tuna burger)
-Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles (I get down with the waffle minus the fried chicken, and usually mess with the scrambled egg, cheese and onion). It’s one of my favorite spots, but I can only indulge in it once or twice a year.
EM: What songs are at the top of your playlist at this very moment?
I keep it pretty simple. I usually just hit shuffle on the ipod or itunes library and roll with whatever comes up. It’s generally a mix of hip-hop and R&B with some old school jams from back in the day.
EM: What is your current bedside read?
I generally do most of my nighttime reading on my computer these days, whether it’s news items, gossip, blog research, etc. That being said the books currently by my bedside are: A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and Living Like Ed: A Guide to the Eco-Friendly Life by Ed Begley Jr.
EM: What is your favorite city to visit when you travel abroad? And why?
My world travels are upcoming… London, Paris, Dubai in 2009. My current favorite city to visit is New York for all the obvious reasons: Amazing and eclectic food, insane energy at all hours of the day, good times with great friends.
…the list goes on.
EM: What new projects you are building on right now?
First and foremost I am blogging about all things green at www.greengrownandsexy.com. I am also a restaurant, travel and lifestyle review contributor at www.swellcityguide.com. Lastly I am looking forward to a collaborative effort with a couple of amazing magazines in the New Year as well a few other yet to be unveiled projects for 2009.
