A highly modern take on the mid-century post and beam, this sprawling Archipelago house employs a crazy zig-zag structure to naturally fit its rugged mountainous terrain of Archipelago, Stockholm. The house is literally fit snug into the flat surface between two mountain rocks with windows facing both south with ample sunlight and the west with the glassy Baltic seabreeze. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, the zig-zagged layout is also practical in creating a series of outside pockets around the home that is sheltered from the strong Archipelago winds.
The architect team, Tham & Videgård Hansson Arkitekter wanted the residents’ living experience to be intrinsically connected to their environment by opening the common areas of the house with crisscrossed sliding glass doors. Making this simply the perfect summerhome to share with friends to get away from the bustle of city life. The principle architects in charge of this project were Bolle Tham & Martin Videgård Hansson.
