The Dark Side of North Shore

 

The violent history of Oahu’s North Shore may have stemmed from the debilitating history of colonialism.  However localism, or the backlash of natives against the wave of tourists has been a growing problem.  Nobody owns the ocean.

With the invention of the internet and web cams the element of catching a swell by surprise has been taken out surfing. The days of scoring a lonely perfect wave now requires a jet-set route off the radar.  You can watch pipeline breaking live at www.surfline.com
