A New (Old) White House

Long live the White House

The White House is dead…Long live the White House!

We created this imaginary Piranesi print in response to the Storefront for Art and Architecture’s competition to Redesign the White House (“White House Redux”). We say,

There is no need to redesign it. It will look like this soon enough.

avedonthefamily1

I was in DC two days after the election and had a chance to check out an exhibit of Richard Avedon’s work, Portraits of Power, at the Corcoran Museum.  One of the bodies of work on display was “The Family”, a portrait series of 73 men and women who Avedon understood as key figures that made up the political leadership of the United States in 1976

Anna Wintour on Michelle Obama

Michelle/Jackie

Michelle Obama’s personal style reminds me of Jackie Kennedy’s iconic influence to the  fashion industry during the 1960′s.  She embraces the style that we once saw during the Kennedy Administration.  Anna Wintor, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, shared her thoughts on Michelle’s style during inauguration week.

Obi Best

Obi Best is the electro-pop act of L.A.-based musician Alex Lilly. The songs off her debut album, “Capades,” (Social Science Recordings) are quirky, catchy, sweet—and, unlike most pop, too smart to be cloying.

Manny Garcia’s Obama Photograph

Shepard Fairey’s iconic Hope poster was inspired from a photograph taken by a freelance photojournalist name Manny Garcia.  In April 2006, Garcia photographed a candid shot of President Obama and George Clooney during a press conference in Washington, DC.  Garcia’s original photo is currently displayed for public viewing at “CAN & DID – Graphics, Art, and Photography from the Obama Campaign”.
