John Kleckner – The 40 Seasons

The Peres Projects gallery in Berlin is hosting the work of New York artist John Kleckner, whose paintings dwell in the fantastically explicit inner journey of his imagination. The 40 Seasons is a collection of watercolor and ink drawings of evolving flesh and bone; Norse god-like men with phallic features; ghoulish, cadaverous visages; and human and arboreal transformations that echo Ovid’s Metamorphoses in sexually and hauntingly stark detail.

With the macabre humor and aesthetic of Edward Gorey, Kleckner’s illustrations are voyeuristic peeks into the nightmarish, personal moments of suicidal insects, supine maidens and disemboweled mythical men.
