Revisiting SFaustina

About five years ago, a free online magazine entitled Bloodwars popped up, which showcases the raw, dirty, drippy, stylistic, fast energy characteristics of graffiti from well known and not so well known artists. Sfaustina’s handpicked works are a breath of fresh air from the generic formulaic graffiti that is seen more and more today as the mass media/culture gets a hold of it. One won’t find many crisp lines and color schemes that appear to belong in a commercial for some athletic shoe. Pieces that took weeks to complete through careful manipulation of aerosol paint are nowhere to be found. Raw, quick (yet precise) hand-styles that boast creative energy and life litter the pages of Bloodwars. The magazine is a “bomber’s” paradise and a return to the fundamental roots of graffiti.

SFaustina’s art is strongly influenced by the street art displayed in his magazines. It can be clearly seen through his mixed-media collages. He is a practicing graphic designer and artist based in the Bay area. His work can be seen at http://www.sfaustina.com/sf2007/
