New Yorker Films folds

New Yorker Films

“The cinema is an invention without any future.”
- Louis Lumière

It’s a sad time for cinephiles as film distributor New Yorker Films has called it quits and will no longer be in business. After 43 years of releasing stateside releases of quintessential foreign films—the works of Godard and Bertolucci included—the company has shut its doors after financial mishandling and debts.

Handsome Furs’ Dan Boeckner Reveals “Lost” Obsession

evangeline-dan

The last time I saw Dan Boeckner, we were drinking lukewarm Heinekens backstage at the Metro in Chicago. I was mostly there for the free beer. Dan was mostly there to play guitar with Wolf Parade. But both of us were also mostly there to snicker at ex-semi-bandmate (groupie?) Dante DeCarlo as he unsuccessfully hit on an anonymous (fellow?) groupie in the green room.

Ann-Sofie’s Lost Girls

asb2.jpg asb5.jpg

Star from “The Lost Boys” might be Jamie Gertz’s finest role to date. As head vampire David’s girlfriend she was all big hair, white slip dresses and unattainable vampiric charm. If I could have it my way Star would have been rocking Ann-Sofie Back’s fall 2009 collection instead. A

marianella

Presenter:  Everyone knows this category can get a little sudsy…

The screen behind him fills up the stage and the screenplay types itself over the footage.

If only we could wash our hands of this tiny venture!

Post-Apocalyptic Nightmares

nine_1

Some people prefer movies that highlight the vivid features of real life.  But if you’re like me and enjoy periodically escaping through a good story of fantasy or science fiction there is a project that you should be aware of.  If you haven’t heard of the movie  9 you’d do yourself a favor by taking a peek at the trailer that should be hitting silverscreens everywhere by now.
