To coincide with the last day of the Limited A-Trak Picture Disc Giveaway here at EM, the designer behind the artwork Dust La Rock took some time out of his hectic schedule to give us some insight on how he’s living at the moment in this edition of Q&A.
EM: Occupation and Position.
Freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Co-founder of and art director for Fool’s Gold Records. Savant.
EM: What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes your community so unique?
I currently reside in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, I wouldn’t quite say I “identify” with it, more like I tolerate it and it in turn tolerates me. I am looking forward to doing some quality bbqing in the backyard this summer.

EM: What’s the greatest item that you found at your local garage/estate sale?
Too man to mention as I’m an inveterate digger but am quite fond of my vintage Joe Colombo “Boby” cart. A great studio aid, catch all, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
EM: If you could interview one unsung hero, who would it be? Why?
Manly P. Hall, a Canadian author, mystic, and occultist. He wrote a book entitled “The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy” which was published in 1928 when he was 27 years old. Pretty epic all things considered, and that’s quite a bit to be taken into consideration.
EM: What’s your favorite youtube video.
EM: Where are your favorite local spots to eat?
Dumont on Union St. in BK, and St. Dymphna’s on St. Marks Place in Manhattan.
EM: What songs are at the top of your playlist at this very moment?
01. Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway “Back Together Again”
02. Infiniti ” Game One”
03. Mike Snow “Animals”
04. Main Source “Fakin’ the Funk”
05. DJ Mehdi “Tunisia Bambaata”
06. Three 6 Mafia “Pussy Got Ya Hooked”
07. Flash and the Pan “Waiting for a Train”
08. Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 “Ye-Me-Le”
09. Pop Will Eat Itself “Psychosexual”
EM: What is your current bedside read?
In no particular order..
Mastering the Tarot by Eden Gray
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer
The Bible, King James Version

EM: What is your favorite city to visit when you travel abroad?
Jaco, Costa Rica. Hands down the most beautiful place I’ve seen thus far.
EM: What new projects you are building on right now?
Putting together my first solo gallery show which looks like it will be popping off towards the end of April (you heard it here first folks). There’s a vinyl toy in the works with Kid Robot that I created for, and developed with my homie A-Trak which will be dropping this summer. Also for A-Trak is his new (official) mix cd “Infinity +1″ will be released at the end of March. A Never-ending supply of Fool’s Gold Releases, merch and misc, and lots more tricks but nothing I want to let out of the bag just yet.
