England was looking particularly dapper this past weekend during their friendly against Slovakia. They were wearing their new home game kits at Wembley. The Umbro uniforms were individually tailored to each player by Savile Row-trained tailor Charlie Allen. The collaborative process between Allen, Aitor Throup, David Blanch and the players is pretty interesting. There’s something about the psychology of getting the players involved in the process of making their outfits. Team manager Fabio Capello puts it well when he said, “when you look smart, you play smart.” I’m not sure how effective this is, but England beat Slovakia 4-0, so maybe he’s onto something.
