Meet Lorenzo Petrantoni. He’s an Italian graphic designer who’s recently been doing some awesome work for major publications like the New York Times and Flaunt. He revitalizes stuffy old magazines like Time and Newsweek by making them look fresh and distinct with his unique collage-style and typographical designs. Like Shepard Fairey and his soviet-era redesigns, Petrantoni looks to the past for design concepts: namely, illustrations from books and dictionaries from the late 1800s. The effect is elaborate without being overwrought, reappropriative without being hackneyed. He currently lives and works in Italy.
