Camerin KellyEM: Occupation and Position. My name is Camerin Kelly. I manage Trademark Recordings, a vinyl/digital independent music label here in Los Angeles. I also sing and play guitar in a band called Lantern and design for whoever needs it. EM: Who does the cleaning at home? I do. EM: What neighborhood do you closely identify with? What makes your community so unique? I’ve been in Echo Park for six years and my father has lived here since I was a child, so it’s always felt like home. I’ve seen a lot change over the years and I hear a lot of people complaining about the meta This used to be a dangerous place. Walking on the streets at night was not an option. Do people really miss sketchy speed dealers on the corner? Give me a break. I enjoy the peace. EM: What’s the greatest item that you found at your local garage/estate sale? An old Mexican painting of a woman that was haunted. She wore a black hat and had a hauntingly seductive look in her eye. She drove my roommate crazy, and then he stole her. I have hatched a plan to get her back. EM: If you could interview one unsung hero, who would it be? Why? I’d like to have a drink with Aleister Crowley or Jack Parsons. I find their lives and work beyond interesting and would love to have lived during their time. Spiritualism, Magick, Blavatsky, Manly P. Hall. Los Angeles went off in the early 20th century. EM: What’s your favorite YouTube video? Cookie monster videos. Any of them will do. EM: Where are your favorite local spots to eat? Barragan’s, Masa, Park. Anywhere with a happy hour. House of Incest by Anaïs Nin Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines by W.Y. Evans-Wentz EM: What is your favorite city to visit when you travel abroad? And why? Budapest, Hungary. I have family there, including my grandmother, and spending time with her was a wonderful experience. It’s Eastern Europe yes, but it’s not cold and depressing. It’s actually the opposite. I want to go to Egypt sometime soon. EM: What new projects are you building on right now? I am currently rehearsing for a few shows coming up in April and May with my band Lantern. Trademark is putting out a bunch of vinyl this summer, including a split with my band and Samurai Dreams. Besides that, putting together an intimate show with friends on April 25 at my house.
