Susan Boyle: Haters Sit Down

susanboyle

Oh, fickle heart of the masses.  Susan Boyle wowed millions watching Britain’s Got Talent, putting to shame those sneering at the homey, unemployed, 47 year-old who lives in a small village with her cat, Pebbles.  View her stunning performance here.  It would be demeaning

Postopolis! LA – Part 2

postopolisfriday

Photo from Storefront for Art and Architecture flickr, licensed under Creative Commons

Continuing my summary of Postopolis! LA (read the first part here) I have come to the realization that my evil computer doth conspires against me. Pondering this I think one reason I would wish to be independently wealthy would be just so I could take a hatchet to the digital demon and not worry about being unable to replace it. Needless to say I won – this time, and below are the presenters I was able to catch on the Friday of Postopolis! LA.

Elohim by Sabrina Goh

picture-5Between your myriad of choices for studded gladiators, spring skirt shapes, and don’t-even-get-me-started-with-denim, you’re beginning to wonder if you’re suffering a severe sartorial block. Maybe, so. Luckily, Singapore-based designer Sabrina Goh is ready to bring you back to a solid foundation. Her Lego-inspired collection will pull you from your puzzlement by providing the building blocks for simple, intelligent wear. In a monochromatic dress “embellished” with a Lego bangle, a black/white pixilated mini-skirt or tee, or a grey acrylic clutch, you’re guaranteed to be able to pick from the perfect pieces. So you can spend more time building a fashion following and less time entertaining your style-sucking breakdown.

Walls of Oppression

Call it what you will — a prison, apartheid, hell, a series of bantustans — the reality is obscenely high concrete walls, checkpoints, continued harassment, lack of resources, fear of unwarranted incarceration and loss of hope. This is how the Palestinian residents of the West Bank live, two and a half million people on twenty-two percent of what is left of their original land. Who is the culprit,

You haven’t heard this song at a club until you’ve heard it dropped by J.Rocc. I normally don’t make such bold statements, but the Funky President is one really goodass DJ. He was on stage at Central City Cafe in 19 ninety something. Maybe I’m young, maybe I’m old, but at the time, I hadn’t heard a Hip Hop DJ rock a crowd like this before. He freaked the intro in some crazy way, so much so that the tension built during the acappella intro caused panties to fly off once he dropped the beat. I may be exaggerating a little, but

Chris Cole does a mini

Former Thrasher and Transworld skater of the year and newfound Cali resident Chris Cole can do pretty much anything on a skateboard short of a vert ramp.  Now, it appears that he’s so talented that he can still do it all on a mini board as well.  Here’s a little footage of Cole shredding the Blackbox team park on a board meant for children.  It’s not quite as gnarly as he usually gets, but that’s not to say that back and front lipsliding an 11-stair rail is un-gnarly.  Watch and enjoy.

Virginia Tech, We Remember

vt_blkribbon_trans175x250In remembrance of those lost on April 16, 2007.

Today marks the second year anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre that claimed the lives of thirty-two students and faculty members in Blacksburg, VA.

I recall reading the headlines in the news that morning. I was concerned about the safety of my cousin, then a freshmen at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. I sent her a text message after receiving a phone call from another relative. Living minutes from the first victim’s

Lindsey Lookin’ for Luv

Yeah, yeah…I know you’re all sick and tired of the tabloid queens boasting crotch shots sans panties, strung out on narcissism and noses stuffed with South America’s finest.   However I give props to Lohan for this charming, self-deprecating  video profile on e-harmony.  I’m sure this another one of her frivolous publicity stunts.  But who cares?  Whatever her motives, it’s actually refreshing to hear her Marlboro timbre and witness some off-the-cuff humor.
