Each week I rip a song from vinyl and post it up here. Sometimes I have a great opportunity to have a guest drop a song. This week I was lucky enough to have Jay share a song with us. You might know him from his music with Time Machine, his work on Glow In The Dark Records, or from the Glow Like This blog. This week Jay brings us “Pink Panther” by Paul Blake & The Bloodfire Posse. The past few days seemed to fly by for me and I can’t think of a better tune to end off this special week.

Korean artist and creative director Young Kim started his identity as Suitman simply enough while relocating with only a single black suit to wear. Over time he realized that the black suit and the yellow shades externalized his feeling of cultural alienation both as an Asian living in America, and also an American living in Asia. Suitman is the manifestation, in a physical, plastic form, of this lifelong alienation. The legend of Suitman has grown through photographs taken during Young’s travels. His work is insightful, personal, relevant, highly engaging and always surprising. →

Looks like the Wells Fargo wagon needs roadside assistance. Yesterday, the 157 year-old financial institution was sued by the State of California for a whopping $1.5 billion. The charge? Securities fraud. And to think that the bank celebrated record profits of $3.05 billion only one day before.
How nice for them.

Aleksandra Stratimirovic’s technique used in her mosaic type art pieces is reminiscent of the prominent contemporary painter Chuck Close. Both artists use an underlying grid-like structure to piece together their works. While Close uses relatively small abstract shapes and different colored paints in each unit of his grid, Stratimirovic uses medical vials filled with different colored liquids that exist in front of a fluorescent backlight. Her sterile installations appear to be a stained glass type representational image from afar and draws the viewer in close to have the piece reveal that it is indeed made up of thousands of medical vials, thus creating a sense of dichotomy in how the work is to be perceived. →

A refreshing breath of fresh talent is Designer Michael Van Der Ham whose innovative designs bring forth a new and much needed change and direction in the world of fashion. His unique vision and approach to materials is intuitive in the most genius sense, and his ability to execute broad concepts as one concise vision is incredible as he has recently demonstrated at the much hyped Central St. Martin’s 2009 MA show. →
Lately, it seems that everything Dame Dash touches turns to dust: Pro Keds, Rocafella (not dust, but booted him out), his homes, cars and even his family. We’ve all had bad runs, but Dame’s has been epic. Once valued (by himself) at around $50 million, he’s now made up of nothing but debt, debt and more promisary notes. →
There are days when your hair is flawless, your work actually matters and mystery pink-and-yellow roses appear at your door. And then there are the days filled with hit and runs (sans note), salacious emails to the CEO (sent accidentally), and the resurfacing of exes (all of them at once). At the end of the latter, all you want to do is wash it all off. Luckily, Jan Marini is offering you a clean slate. Her Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser gives you the most perfect clean (I know I tried it!). There’s no extra residue, no irritation, just the feeling that you flung the filth of all possible irritants into the sink. Because even though adding a pimple to your day from hell would be the devil’s icing, →
