Each week I rip a song from vinyl and post it up here. This week’s song is “Simply So ft. Steve Spacek (SA-RA Remix)” by GB. I’ve been listening to SA-RA a lot lately since I hear they’ve got a new album coming out June 24. And as much as I don’t want to take credit away from such a great artist as GB, the SA-RA electric soul formula of bouncy bass loops and smooth horns sound on this 12″ is nicety. Enjoy.

Always a Lady

Foregoing the standard ideas of 30 second hyper compressed advertising, Dior instead decided to take the luxury (no pun intended) to craft a series of small films to promote their new Lady Dior bag. Staring Marion Cotillard and shot with a healthy dose of Hitchcokian drama, the spots are one example of the many ways companies are rethinking product promotion.

Jay Smooth

I love when I come across someone who can speak in an articulate fashion. Jay Smooth is a radio personality and he also has a great video commentary site called www.illdoctrine.com, I highly recommend you check out his site and listen to his fresh perspective on life. Listen to his thoughts above about the recent Miss California and Perez Hilton debacle.

“Oak NYC Launches its New In House Line-A.OK”

mesh neck dress

Oak NYC is known for housing edgy, trend-setting designs. Carrying lines, such as Complex Geometries , Monrow and Rachel Comey, their pieces compliment the unapologetic vixen, ready for a night on the town or the fashionable beau, bold enough to sport a unisex tee paired with “indigo rocker jeans” (nothing wrong with that!).  And although their products speak easy to fashionphiles across the board, their prices aren’t always in tow with the average shopper’s income.

Oak recently launched its new diffusion line, A.Ok., where everything retails for under $100. Allowing the consumer to feel o.k. after a day of shopping, their sister store offers affordable pieces that retain a similar quality that Oak provides.

Daisy’s Balloons

Taking a seemingly innocent decoration accessory to new heights is what balloon artist Rie Hosokai (aka: Daisy Balloon) obtained after breaking off from the flower shop she had been working for as a decorator to start her own business in 2002. Since then she has competed in, won and demonstrated techniques at numerous balloon competitions in her native Japan and throughout the world.

Bringing Back the Classics: A Brief History on K-Swiss

kswiss_1

Nearly everyone on the west coast has owned a clean pair of K-Swiss at some point in their life.  From awkward highschooler to hardened ese, whether worn in icy white or classic black, the five stripes have have become a go-to lifestyle footwear brand.  So it might seem strange that there’s been a marked resurgence of the California-native company in higher end shops and specialty boutiques–but only because most are not aware of the interesting amount of heritage behind the Kompany-Swiss.

Hiroshi Watanabe – Ideology in Paradise

hiroshi-watanabe

California photographer Hiroshi Watanabe will exhibit his works at his gallery in West Hollywood in commemoration of his book, Ideology in Paradise, a stunning collection of photographs he took while visiting Pyongyang, North Korea. The choreographed moments in the book resemble a Social Realist painting and oftentimes leave the viewer wondering about their truth and reality.

Op-Ed: Queen of Her Castle

First, her French counterpart Carine Roitfeld landed on CNN, now it’s Anna’s turn as the Queen Bee of American fashion sits down with 60 Minutes‘ Morely Safer to talk business, rumors and why those sunglasses, ALL the time…

Now let’s get one thing straight before I go any further: I have loads of respect for Wintour, she’s helmed one of the most respected fashion magazines in the world since the 80’s. She’s worked with some of the best names in design, photography, journalism, and modeling, no one can argue that Anna doesn’t know her stuff. However, where the colors get a little fuzzy for me is in the amount of emphasis put on Anna as the deciding voice in fashion.
