Blu Jemz
Scion A/V
(2009)
In general, I like to listen more than talk (in this case, write). I think I'm in trouble. But I'm going to write about this because I think it's really dope. There's a lot of other really good music and things I haven't gotten around to writing about too, but it's hard. I have to give it up to people out there who can keep up with it all. How do you do it?
I picked up this Blu Jemz
Beat Machine CD at the
TTL store recently. I try really hard not to be an annoying kiss up fanboy, but I like the CD (and after listening to a line on Ye's "
Big Brother" one too many times, I don't want to hold back from proclaiming my fandomness). Where do you draw the line on this type of thing? I think almost anything this guy works on I'll like. Seriously. I liked listening to the
Pocket Checkers songs and he's funny on the radio too. He also used to use Fozzy Bear as
his twitter icon. It kind of upset me a little at first because Fozzy Bear is
my favorite muppet, and now I can't use him. (See, this is what I'm talking about. I think I crossed the line. Sorry, too much information.) Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, I think the
Beat Machine CD is bona fide good. The best word I can think of to describe it is, it's "TUFF." When I first played the CD, my gf described it as "dude music." Word, I'm a dude. Beats are laid down by
Flying Lotus,
O Spindles,
Waajeed,
Dorian Concept,
Samiyam,
Dr. Who Dat?, and
Blu Jemz himself--among a bunch of other really dopeass artists. "Break out the casio and the drum machine. Break-Break out the casio and-the and-the drum machine."
