Each week I rip a song from vinyl and I post it up here. I’m late with this post, so there’ll be another post later this week as well. My bad. So anyway, this week’s song is “Rock Creek Park” by The Blackbyrds.
I used to hear this song every week at The Root Down when it was at Gabah on Melrose. I liked the song, but I had never known what the name of it was or who it was by. One night after strolling up to the door from a routine “get-inebriated-in-the-car-before-going-in” session, some friends and I were hanging out outside when the song came on, yet again. So out of curiosity and just lollygaggin’ around out front, we asked the doorman who the song was by. He responded with, “Man, this is The Blackbyrds” in a “you don’t know who this is by?” tone of voice. Since then, I found it intriguing to learn tidbits of information from what might appear to be an unlikely source because of the fresh perspective it can bring to the table. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but I think it’s good in general. So yeah, that’s my “how I heard about ‘Rock Creek Park’” story.
