DC Remix Series project: MSDC Xander

This second DC Remix Series™ project, the MSDC Xander, is a great juxtaposition of Mike Shinoda’s unique influences: accomplished artist vs. record-breaking musician, American upbringing vs. Japanese heritage. Shinoda chose traditional Japanese patterns and koi scale textures for his shoe and packaging; the sole features custom fish scale tooling created just for this project and artwork sublimated underneath.

“I’ve always loved fish, especially koi, and I thought the scales would make a fun pattern for the bottom of the shoe.” The many patterns in the in-box booklet and packaging reference fabrics and origami paper patterns that surrounded Shinoda growing up.

“When I was young, some people were surprised to find out that I am half Japanese. Growing up, I always looked forward to celebrating each New Year’s Day with that side of my family. I love Japanese food and art, so I guess it’s no surprise that those things sometimes end up being a part of my work.” Mike’s art, renditions of his latest work, is found on the upper, the insole, and the outsole; his signature is on the heel; and “limited edition” is embroidered in Japanese on the tongue.

The proceeds from sales of the majority of his painted/drawn works go to the Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship, helping students at the Art Center College of Design in California. “I am happy to say that proceeds from my second Remix Series™ shoe are going towards the scholarship once again, and that DC has generously offered to match this donation dollar for dollar.”

The shoe will be available in one colorway: White/Green and will be available at www.bandmerch.com and www.pickyourshoes.com.
