NPMT Announces Sunday Street Festival
North Park Music Thing (NPMT), previously known as North By North Park (NXNP), has added Jack Tempchin to the list of confirmed panelists, and added The Presidents of the United States of America, Steve Poltz & the Rugburns and El Vez to the list of performers scheduled to appear at its second annual event.
The annual three-day music and media conference will be held at the Lafayette Hotel, located at 2223 El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego, Aug. 7-9, 2009. All-day panel discussions – including featured speaker and performer Nathan East – on Saturday Aug. 8 will be followed by a 150-musical act Club Music Fest on more than 18 San Diego venue stages, highlighting performances from bands and individual musicians from across the region. NPMT Club Fest performers include: El Ten Eleven, Scarlet Symphony, Apes of Wrath, Get Back Loretta, The Silent Comedy, The Vision of a Dying World, Billy Midnight, The Powerchords, Republic of Letters, MC Flow, Lisa Sanders, Robin Henkel, Shawn Rohlf and Peter Bolland, among others.
On Sunday, Aug. 9, the debut of the NPMT Street Festival will follow all-day panel discussions with three stages of live music, local art and an international food court along El Cajon Blvd. in front of the Lafayette Hotel. Confirmed NPMT Street Festival performers include: The Presidents of the United States of America, Scott Russo & The Big Big Bang, The Night Marchers, Black Heart Procession, Steve Poltz & The Rugburns, El Vez (The Mexican Elvis), Uncle Joe’s Big ‘Ol Driver, and Avi Buffalo, with more to be announced shortly.
“We’re thrilled to bring some of the country’s music industry leaders together to benefit those looking to kick-start their music careers,” said Kevin Hellman, founder of the San Diego Music Foundation. “We’re also looking forward to showcasing some of our region’s top performers on stages across San Diego for everybody to enjoy.”
Recently added to the list of panelists set to discuss various elements of the music business, is San Diego County resident Jack Tempchin. Tempchin is recognized as a key influencer in the development of what is now known simply as “The Southern California Sound,” and has lent his songwriting talent to such classics as The Eagles’ “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Already Gone, ” as well as Johnny River’s “Slow Dancing.” Tempchin will participate in the Songwriting Demystified: Where’s the Motivation? workshop, on Sunday, August 9.
All proceeds from North Park Music Thing will be donated to the San Diego Music Foundation, which seeks to enrich the San Diego music community by providing professional development opportunities and assistance to local musicians. The Foundation organizes the annual San Diego Music Awards show, recognizing the achievements of the local music community, and also encourages the next generation of musicians through its Taylor Guitars for Schools program, which has provided over 1000 guitars to 56 elementary schools in San Diego County, who include guitar in their music curriculum.
