6 Cents

ors_uni48457

Despite the rise in costs for basically everything nowadays, I’m pretty sure sparing 6 cents won’t do much to your wallet. With just 6 cents out of your pocket, you can help save those who don’t have access to safe and clean water in the developing world where approximately one billion people suffer because of this. However, there has been a simple treatment being used recently called oral rehydration salts (ORS), which saves 1 million children annually from diarrheal diseases. The ORS is a simple combination of salt, sugar and clean water and costs just 6 cents per

Creative Rec Gets Girly

CRSP10_Catalog_WomensSelect-9-567x419-custom.jpg

I guess this is what happens when you fall out of the shoe game, you totally miss that sneaker companies like Creative Recreations are expanding. And what an expansion it is. Not even a hint of sneaker or streetwear culture in these fem offerings for Spring 2010. Branching pretty far out into flats, wedges, lace-ups, and sandals, the company’s first stab at the women’s shoe market is right on point. Simple silhouettes, cool color schemes and just the right amount of trendiness, I think this move will see Creative Rec gaining a whole new demographic of dedicated followers. Kudos on raising the bar, yet again.

Fear and self-loathing in America’s Rust Belt, Part II

terror-underlying1A new series of personal essays about job loss, mental health, and the undying pursuit of art.

When I arrived that morning, the magazine offices were nearly vacant. Nothing but the dull hum of a thousand overhead florescent lights and the distant clicking of a few phantom keyboards registered a sound. A stack of empty boxes had been left on my desk. Looking at them, they seemed to tell the true story of the last 24 hours: We care, we really do. But please take your shit and leave, it’s time for us to move on (Read: ‘Fear & Self-Loathing…’ Part I). I looked at the boxes, then over at the woman from Human Resources

Roy Nachum’s texturized, surrealist paintings are scaled to life size but his images resist the conventions reality imposes on both wilderness and civilization. Partially nude women crouch next to kneeling elephants to peer into their eyes and stroke their nubile trunks. A boy, blinded by the heavy crown which has slipped over his ears to cover
