The Art of Good Citizenship
826LA-Los Angeles, CA
09/12/09
826LA and the Echo Park Time Travel Mart are proud to premiere the second collection of original time travel themed posters designed by Los Angeles-based artist, Amy Martin, in collaboration with copywriters Mac Barnett and Jon Korn. This year’s collection is in collaboration with the The Federation for the Advancement of Time-because no matter when you live, it’s always the right time for good temporal citizenship! Each poster promotes a civic message for good citizenship in the far past or distant future, transforming the predictable aesthetic of the WPA poster with ironic sloganeering such as “Fire Good…But Also Bad” and “Robots! Clean Your Drives Daily”, coupled with clean, retro graphic design. They are on sale now for PRE-ORDER here. Each poster is $19.99, or you can buy a set of 4 for $69.99. All proceeds go to 826LA, a nonprofit dedicated to helping students 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Last year’s popular Time Travel Posters raised over $30,000 for 826 LA’s programs. Or purchase them in person, and meet the artist at The Echo Park Time Travel Mart and Stories Books and Cafe will be hosting an open house with music, art, food, and drink on September 12th.
About Amy Martin:Martin is an art director, graphic designer and illustrator. A graduate of the University of Michigan, she has spent much of her career designing books, magazines, and newspapers. Staff assignments have included The Detroit Free Press Opinion section, The Los Angeles Times Calendar section, and currently Knock Knock, a design firm in Venice where she is currently Senior Designer. Some of her recent clients have included The New York Times, TWBA\Chiat\Day, and Smog Design. In July 2008, she created a series of retro-inspired time travel posters for 826LA, followed up with an Obama poster that hung in the Manifest Hope Gallery at the DNC and was wheat pasted all over the country. Right now she’s collaborating with Death Cab for Cutie on a poster project for McSweeney’s Quarterly and preparing a new line of 826 posters for print.
