Werewolves, centaurs and women shed their original skin, emerging as new breeds of enchanted beings and barbaric beasts. →
British Invasion Mix Night
Silent Movie Theatre – Los Angeles, CA
9/24/09

In another installment of The British Invasion series, the Cinefamily presents a night of obscure television specials, promotional videos, live tapings, movies and parodies topped off by a screening of Catch Us If You Can, by director John Boorman (Deliverance, Point Blank). Boorman’s first feature, the pop noir film is a tale about a media rebel and is apparently “[m]ore serious and sad” than other fictional rockumentary films like A Hard Day’s Night. Remember, college students attend free until Oct. 10. →
Robert Mapplethorpe: Perfection in Form
Galleria dell’Accademia – Florence, Italy
Through January 10, 2010

As a grand gesture, Perfection in Form juxtaposes his work with the Renaissance sculptures of Michelangelo. The suggestive dialogue brings attention to the Italian master’s influence in the American photographer’s work. →
If you’re nostalgic for the nineties, namely the hip-hop music of that era, Del The Funky Homosapien and Tame 1 feel the same way. In “Flashback,” the two emcees remember the old school by waxing poetic about favorite artists and moments of their youth. The video features a backdrop of a concert, the Fat Beats record shop and other locales of Brooklyn, along with a soulful sample-laden beat. The video is from the upcoming Parallel Uni-Verses project, due Oct. 13 on Gold Dust. →

His latest project combines the musical talent of indie rock group The Black Keys with some of New York’s best emcees. Titled Black Roc, the project features such rappers as Mos Def, Raekwon, Pharaoh Monche, Q-Tip and more spitting over Black Keys tracks. The project is set to hit shelves/the Web on black Friday, November 27th, this year. How cute, right?
