Free Day at the Guggenheim Museum (50th Anniversary)
Guggenheim Museum - New York
10/21/09
***
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Guggenheim Museum will offer free admission to all visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2009. The entire day will host a variety of events for all age groups, including a picture book reading and free cookies for children. There will also be free giveaways, family-friendly interactive projects, documentary screenings, raffles and tours accommodating five languages and the deaf, blind and partially slighted.
Oct. 21 also marks the opening for the site-specific sculptural installation by Anish Kapoor. Exploring concepts of scale, color and the void, Kapoor has constructed a steel sculpture that weighs 24 tons and occupies an entire gallery space, making it impossible to see in its entirety from one vantage point. It is a monumental and imposing work, challenging the way one perceives and inhabits depth and space.
Also currently on exhibit are the works of Gabriele Münter, Vasily Kandinsky, Felix Gonzales-Torres, Roni Horn and Kitty Kraus.
