LACE is proud to present I Feel Different, a multi-media group exhibition organized by guest curator Jennifer Doyle. You can be sure to check out the works of Nao Bustamante, James Luna, Lezley Saar, David Wojnarowicz, Monica Duncan, Lara Odell, Susan Silton, and Niña Yhared (1814). I Feel Different will make you feel different. The project explores the uniqueness of each individual as well as the transformational power that art has upon us. What makes this exhibit different from others is rather than attracting visitors who come to critique art, it brings together artists and art lovers by testing the limits of the possibilities of emotional expression and unity that can come from art. You know an artist has done their job when they have the ability to display his outrage, depression or pleasure and pass this emotion onto their spectators. Then the question comes up, how much can an artist really change how we feel? The relationship between art and the spectator is often made through an emotional reaction or attraction.
I Feel Different opens with a few performances you should make sure to catch if you’re at the exhibition. These performances include a reading by Raquel Gutierrez and live performances by LACE resident artist Niña Yhared (1814) and James Luna. A full night of performances and artwork from these amazing artists will be sure to have you emotionally satisfied. I Feel Different is made possible with the generous support of the Pasadena Art Alliance and a grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angeles. The event starts at 8 P.M.
