The Pecha Kucha Night/ Orange County launch event will showcase  8 dynamic presentations from speakers from across the county. Pecha Kucha Nights bring together eight speakers, each from a different discipline, to present on their chosen topic for 6 minutes and 40 seconds exactly, in an event that is part show and tell, part visual arts and part networking. At the PKN/OC launch, attendees will tap into their inner creativity as they are privy to inspiring presentations on topics that will range from iphone applications to OC’s “green” movement. As defined by Wikipedia, Pecha Kucha (usually pronounced in three syllables like “pe-chak-cha”), is a presentation format in which content can be easily, efficiently and informally shown, usually at a public event designed for that purpose. Under the format, a presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds each, for a total time of 6 minutes, 40 seconds.

It originated in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo’s Klein-Dytham Architecture (KDa), who sought to give young designers a venue to meet, network, and show their work. They devised a format that kept presentations very concise in order to encourage audience attention and increase the number of presenters within the course of one night. They took the name Pecha Kucha from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation (“chit-chat”).  Klein and Dytham’s event, called Pecha Kucha Night, has spread virally around the world.

“A group of us heard the buzz about the Pecha Kucha phenomenon taking place globally and came together to bring it to Orange County”, said Jason Evers PKN/OC lead organizer. “With so much creativity and innovation happening within the county, Pecha Kucha is a perfect medium to give the public a taste of what is going on across a number of our local industries.”

The event will begin at 7:00 pm, with the first presentation starting at precisely 8:20pm, as dictated by Pecha Kucha custom.  A $5 donation will be requested at the door.
