Considering the buzz and success surrounding AMC’s breakout hit Mad Men, it was only a matter of time before it seeped even further into our subconscious and we all started dressing like retro 60′s throwbacks. Emmy winning costume designer Janie Bryant and Brooks Brothers →

Magda Danysz, a proud supporter of Graffiti and Street Art for more than 10 years, wrote From style writing to graffiti, a street art anthology, which glorifies the History of this artistic movement. The works of Seen, Crash, Quik and Blade show the historic sources of the street art. The L.A. Case
October 8 – October 29
Hollywood, CA
***
Carmichael Gallery invites you to *The L.A. case*, an exhibition of new works on canvas by German artist case. This is case’s first US solo exhibition and the second time he has exhibited at Carmichael Gallery.
Case’s new body of work references imagery from elaborate, self-staged photo shoots using spray paint on canvas. Combining exacting technical expertise with an innovative hint of liberation and irony, he investigates the parallels that exist between the conflicting states of convention and controversy, manipulating beauty in a dark, thrilling and
provocative manner. →

El Perro del Mar
The Control Group
(2009)
The Swedish songstress Sarah Assbring of El Perro del Mar (The Dog from the Sea) has returned with her third album titled Love is Not Pop, a line taken from Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris (a film that explores the nuances of love, sexual deviation and corruption). Ms. Assbring, alongside Rasmus Hägg of the Balearic duo Studio, recorded a seven track collection of melodies that remind listeners love may be a topical subject amongst pop songs, but it does not have to be catchy, nor ephemeral- it can be adventurous and in some cases, long-lasting. →

Cymbals Eat Guitars
Self-Released
(2009)
Cymbals Eat Guitars set out a tough dynamic for themselves to play, and while Why There Are Mountains, their debut album, has its successes, it doesn’t really come together as the grand statement of a renewed indie rock tradition that some in the music community have made it out to be. Instead of going the way of Broken Social Scene (another band that covers a lot of musical influence), who split their vast and disparate interests into discrete statements that then bleed into one another, Cymbals Eat Guitars is all bleed →
Q-Tip just released a video for the third single off his Renaissance album, and this time it’s his laid-back jam with the Grammy-winning Norah Jones. This happens to be one of my favorite songs off the album, and I dig the video treatment, which like the song, is fun but not overwhelming. Hopefully this extends the life of The Renaissance, which was one of the best hip hop albums of 2008.
