The Future of Email?

Microsoft 2019

We all poo-poo Microsoft a lot–hey, it’s easy–but they genuinely do some great work when they’re not making terrible ad campaigns.  This latest video showcases Microsoft’s vision of the not-too-distant future; a world where anything and everything is interactive and interfaced.  In all of Microsoft’s highly publicized flubs, it’s easy to forget that there are some genuinely brilliant people working there.  It’s reassuring to see that companies are still pushing innovation in the face of dire economic straits.  If even half of this video comes true, I think we’re all in for a serious technogasm come 2019.  Full 5-minute expanded version after the jump.

Fast-paced and modest in scale, this experimental series, initiated by Chief Curator Nancy Spector and launched in spring 2009, allows the museum to respond quickly to innovations and new developments in contemporary art as they arise. Conceived to take place in the interstices of the museum’s exhibition spaces, in individual galleries, or beyond the physical confines of the building, the program invites a diverse range of artists to create new work for a succession of solo presentations.

The 1 Second Film with Spike Jonze

With producer credits by Spike Jonze and Stephen Colbert, you’d think The 1 Second Film was a big-budget Hollywood production. On the contrary, the project is an experiment in new media and global collaboration. Filmmaker Nirvan Mullick intends to create a one-second film that contains 24 frames with a 9 x 5 foot painting corresponding to each frame. Hundreds of participants produce the paintings at a large party event, and the film is being entirely made with the help of volunteers.

The Red Book (Not Little)

The Red BookUnlike his former adviser and friend Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung believed in the importance of mythology and religion. He believed that our dreams and unconscious were indelibly tied to a collective unconscious shared by an ancestry of people. In this regard, Carl Jung was not only a clinician and psychologist. He also played the role of mystic and inspired counter-cultural movements in arts and politics.
