Sorry Paparazzi

Governor Schwarzenegger signed a new law which will lay fines on uncooperative paparazzi who “physically invade the privacy” of a celebrity in order to photograph or videotape them.  First amendment violation or a necessary regulation on frenzied tabloid culture that’s reached fever pitch?

Anish Kapoor‘s Memory is his latest site-specific installation which explores perceptions of depth, color and scale. Last December, I saw the sculpture at the Guggenheim in Berlin, the only piece being exhibited in the small gallery space at the time. On one side, you can only see the Cor-Ten steel facade of the exterior. From that vantage point, the sculpture resembles an alien space capsule

Drugs

In this darkly morose video for “Drugs,” the Black Heart Procession performs their latest single off of their record Six, a collection of love-weary ballads in the tradition of  songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash. The slow-motion montage of drug addicts and melancholic piano may be the biggest downer and deterrent to drugs since Requiem for a Dream. Likewise, the rest of the new record features apocalyptic soundscapes that would be fitting scores to a Cormac McCarthy novel. In support of its release, the remaining members of BHP, Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel, will embark on their first world tour in three years.

Fashion With Compassion

toilet-paper-fashion-8-537x397.jpg

I always marvel at how something so intricate can come from something so simple. It’s enough for me to see a few yards of fabric morph into a three dimensional garment, but when designers are able to turn materials that have absolutely no correlation with fashion into covetable and wearable items I’m simply at a loss for words.
