Marvelli Gallery is proud to present Evidence starting November 19th, an exhibition of Angela Strassheim’s newest photography. As her third solo exhibition at the gallery, Angela Strassheim continues to please her fans by conceptualizing her most recent series of images after learning of a violent crime that involved a student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where she was teaching at the time.
Strassheim incorporated a forensic technique which is commonly used for crime scene investigation, which she learned while working on the field for the Miami Forensic Imaging Bureau. In this body of work, Strassheim used a specific chemical spray called “Blue Star” to the walls of rooms where violent, aggressive acts were committed. Despite the cleaning and repainting of the rooms since the incident, the “Blue Star” solution activates the physical memory of blood through its contact with the remaining proteins on the walls. Fascinated by the discovery of unnoticed evidence from an unseen past, she reveals and puts a spotlight on the silent memory of everyday living spaces. She generally uses large black and white prints which gives off a honest and true vibe to the image.
Strassheim has received much recognition since her debut in 2005 and has much more to come so keep your eyes open. The opening reception on November 19th starts from 6 P.M. and will last until 8 P.M.
