In the early ’90s, a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders (which included Harmony Korine, Ed Templeton, Shepard Fairey, Mike Mills and Aaron Rose, among others) found common ground at a little Chinatown storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip-hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. In celebration of the DVD release of Beautiful Losers, Aaron Rose will be showcasing short films by key artists in his critically acclaimed documentary, as well as never-before-seen interviews with artists from the scene, sharing personal stories behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation. Films and guests to be announced in the coming weeks.
