The Dublab presents Secondhand Sureshots, a mini-documentary following four L.A. beatmakers and their crate-digging safari through the city’s thrift shops. Daedelus, Nobody, J-Rocc and Ras G browse for old records and pick out five pieces that they produce into fresh beats. The resulting effort is a DVD of the film and a 12-inch Picture Disc featuring artwork screen-printed by the folks at Hit+Run, who scoured over 500 gatefold LP covers for their new designs. Featuring over two hours of footage, music and bonus material, Secondhand Sureshots is an inspiring project that demonstrates the possibilities of creative recycling. →
This ambitious, highly faithful late-’40s Alice adaptation took years to complete, and features an abundance of impressive, meticulous and labor-intensive stop-motion work from pioneer puppeteer Lou Bunin. After a live-action prologue showing the historical inspirations for the major characters, Alice (a decidedly adult Carol Marsh) is quickly launched into surreal realms of design and color. →

Dublab’s Finely Orchestrated Tear Fest

Dublab resident DJs, Dntel and Frosty, curate a selection of pathos drenched sights and sounds to get the whole room reaching for that collective box of tissues. During the last hallowed hour of the event, they will be shutting off the lights so the montage of sad film scenes can inundate the senses. →
