Tour Spiel: Kap Bambino

Kap Bambino (Bouvier Orion & Martial Caroline)

Inspired by the Minutemen song, Evil Monito’s “Tour Spiel” provides an intimate look into the musician’s tumultuous life on the road. Each week, we’ll check in with some of our favorite artists touring stateside or abroad and find out what its like to be packed in a van or waiting at the baggage claim for hours on end.  It’s ultimately the memorable experiences with friends that make life on the road rewarding, or at the very least interesting. This week it’s the French electro-duo, Kap Bambino, who tersely recount their bawdy hijinks on the international tour circuit, leaving more to be desired.

All of our songs, but for me personally, “Caroline.” I also really start to enjoy my set when “Batcaves” arrive ’cause it’s the first track of the show and it’s the start of chaos.

EM: What city did you most enjoy while on tour? Why?

I can’t say. Honestly, we like them all. ‘Cause all cities are different, and it’s always a new adventure!

EM: What are some of the strangest or most interesting cities or towns you’ve traveled through?

Tomorrow, we go play in Colombia/Bogota. I’ll tell you more after our trip.

EM: What kind of vehicle do you tour in?

Mini-bikes.

EM: Who has been your favorite band(s) to play on tour with?

Sad, but we’re never touring with bands, actually. Just cats.

EM: What is your favorite venue to play in? Why?

The Old Blue Last in London, ’cause the floor is gonna fall down soon.

EM: While on tour, what is the band’s favorite spot to eat?

Something normal and fattening.

EM: On nights off while on tour, how do you occupy your time?

That depends. Sleep and watch Russian cartoons, do a new crap styling for the hotel room, talking to animals, meet people or get lost-drunk in the city.

EM: If the band had to agree on one “must-read” book for long nights in the hotel, what would it be?

Rehab for Losers 2009 by L.L.

EM: What is the most interesting thing you’ve found or bought while on tour?

Cheap purple crystal stones, found yesterday in Mexico.

EM: What are some of the best records to listen to on the road?

Motorhead – We Are the Road Crew

EM: What’s the most unique piece of equipment on your tour?

Our brains.

EM: What is the hardest thing about being on the road?

Trying not to get arrested by the police.

EM: What is the best thing about being on the road?

Wild Gypsy.

EM: What are some comfort items that you take when embarking on a long tour?

Lots of socks.

EM: How has the current state of the economy affected your touring?

Buy lots of cigarettes.
