Dengue Fever Presents Their Compilation: Electric Cambodia
This New Year’s Eve, Cambodian psych rock band Dengue Fever will be playing a hometown gig in Los Angeles at The Mint, after which they’ll be moving up north to tour in support of their latest project, Electric Cambodia. This latest release features 14 of the band’s favorite tracks from their personal collection of rare Cambodian cassettes. Considered the “golden era” of Cambodian music, the late sixties and early seventies was a prolific period for artists like Sinn Sisamouth, Pan Ron, Ros Sereysothea and Dara Chom Chan — most of whom did not survive the purges of the Khmer Rouge. Electric Cambodia commemorates the work of musicians considered too “westernized” and “modern” for Pol Pot’s regime.

Proceeds from the album will be donated to Cambodian Living Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to reviving traditional Cambodian art forms and inspiring contemporary artistic expression. Dengue Fever Presents: Electric Cambodia will be released on Jan. 12, 2010!
