Nobody understands the true meaning of Christmas, quite like the incredibly gifted Sharon Jones.  The critically acclaimed artist gives us her perspective of this holiday in a song featuring her airtight band, the Dap-Kings.  She even threw in some strings from the Bushwick Philharmonic.  “There Ain’t No Chimneys In The Projects” recounts her childhood concept of Santa Claus in Brooklyn, wondering how the holiday myth applies to unfortunate kids (like herself) relegated to life in the projects (luckily, her wise mother knew how to improvise!) A poignant, funky holiday carol that makes this easily one of my favorite carol of 2009.  Only paralleled by Strut Records release of, In the Christmas Groove; it’s a perfect addition to the soundtrack of any memorable holiday party!
