“My Girls” – Merriweather Post Pavilion
If you like the experimental pop mash-up that filters through in Animal Collective, you are in for a treat. The FADER welcomed Animal Collective onto their team, giving them editorial autonomy in their latest issue. Apparently FADER trusted Animal Collective in their creative direction as the band pulled a motley crew of friends, idols and compatriots to contribute. Just as their music is jam packed with a medley of sounds, the newest issue is seasoned with the same noise rock that A.C. exudes. Slating the cover is the ominous beatsmith, Zomby and dually-sided, Bjorn Copeland’s kaleidoscopic rendering. Throughout the pages, you will find the voice of A.C. scattered. Brian “Geologist” Weitz and Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) play the role as journalist, interviewing the likes of MTV’s The State and Eric Copeland of Black Dice. Even Dave Portner (Avey Tare) scaled high, showcasing his photography skills.
As one of FADER’s most admired musicians and Merriweather Post Pavilion reigned as one of the “most listened to albums of 2009,” FADER found it only fitting to invite A.C. as guest editors. Both listeners and readers get the rare opportunity to get inside the capricious minds of Animal Collective, who deviate between indie rock melodies to tribal and folk inspired rhythms.
