01/20/10-01/24/10
Los Angeles, CA

The upcoming Los Angeles Art Show (LAAS), will be showcasing an exclusive exhibition of national works from Uruguay. The exhibition, curated by Gustavo Tabaro, coordinator of the Visual Arts Program at the Direccion Nacional de Cultura, will feature not only the feature works by Urguay’s most celebrated artists who all took part in the Uruguay Pavillion of the 53rd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. The lineup includes Raquel Bessio, Juan Burgos, Lacy Duarte, Nelson Ramos, Pablo Uribe Wilfredo Dia Valdez and Ernesto Vilas. This exhibition was made possible by former Ambassador of Uruguay, Frank Baxter who believes that art is a universal language and unites people and illustrates our commonalities; it is evident in the artwork that the artist is able to transcend cultural divides and reflects the diversity of the contemporary arts production in Uruguay as well as the significance of globalization, self-identity, and critical reflection in Uruguayan fine arts today. In addition, the inaugural exhibition for LAAS’s Guest Country program, the Uruguay exhibition will also showcase contemporary paintings as well as mixed media installations and performance videos. The Los Angeles Art Show takes place on January 20-24,2010 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Come with an open mind and a hunger for some good art, but don’t forget to bring $20  or you ain’t gettin’ in.
