Tour Spiel: Miniature Tigers

Minit

Inspired by the Minutemen song, Evil Monito’s “Tour Spiel” provides an intimate look into the musician’s tumultuous life on the road. Each week, we’ll check in with some of our favorite artists touring stateside or abroad and find out what it’s like to be packed in a van or waiting at the baggage claim for hours on end.  It’s ultimately the memorable experiences with friends that make life on the road rewarding, or at the very least interesting.  This week it’s the affable band, Miniature Tigers who thoroughly enjoy their stateside tours and make lasting friendships wherever they play.

“16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence”

Save Darfur Coalition is honoring Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) as part of an initiative associated with the internationally-observed “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.”  For each of the 16 days, the coalition’s unique campaign will honor leaders in the fight to empower, protect and uplift women in Sudan and offer a corresponding action for activists. The international movement is observed between November 25, 2009 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and December 10, 2009 (International Human Rights Day).

Monet of Graffiti

2flycatchers_XENZ

Famed for his beautiful landscapes depicting the natural world, British spray can artist, Xenz is back with a new body of work. Adding to his stunning portfolio, this is a collection of original works on canvas, paper, and discarded objects found on streets of London. Known as the ‘Monet of graffiti’, Xenz demonstrates an almost eidetic ability, so extraordinary is the cohesion between his mind, memory and spray can.

This Year, 13 Clock(s) the Bride

The Bloggomist: Table of Content
Book Review

Many people I know love The Princess Bride with an almost “Maybe I will marry it!” kind of ardor. To be perfectly honest, I still don’t understand the adulation surrounding that film. It’s not that I didn’t want to like it. When everyone else in grade school is giving chase with cries of “You killed my father: prepare to die!”, and British bulldog isn’t happening with the four kids whose parents didn’t take them to see the movie, you sort of wish you shared the love (if only to busy a long lunch recess).

Bionova Eye Make-Up Remover

B-101- Eye make-up Remover

LBD’S. Eyeliner. Making out with reckless abandonment under the mistletoe. We all know what the season of soirees is really about. And we like it. Except when the combination of all three leads you to wake up with sex-kitten-turned-raccoon eyes. Luckily, there’s Bionova Eye Make-Up Remover which removes all traces of your smoky eye without feeling sticky. The vitamin infused remover nourishes and hydrates your skin to ensure you wake up feeling fresh-faced and clean. So even if that extra shot of eggnog means the sheets you’re under don’t look familiar, well…at least they won’t be covered in last’s night kohl.

All’s Fair in Sex and War?

The Bloggomist: Today’s Dish/Yesterday’s Spam
Lifestyle Opinion

I never thought I would find well-written pieces about dating a douche. But Sorry-Mom.com – which is officially titled “I Bang The Worst Dudes” – is  a blog that puts ex-lovers (aka “Dudes” or “douches”) – on blast for their bad bedside manners – proved me wrong.

Now Again Records
(2009)

For anyone who’s listened to nineties-era Nas or C.L. Smooth, it’s more than likely the Pete Rock-inspired covers on this record will sound familiar. The Bronx native graced the boards and blessed many a track during the hey-day of sample-based hip-hop music

Unexpected Guests

DOOM
Gold Dust
(2009)

There is a twist of irony when it comes to DOOM- he does not fit the typical super villain motif. Sure he adopted masked identities inspired by Marvel Comics’ Doctor Doom, assuming the role as MF Doom, Viktor Vaughn and his production moniker Metal Fingers. But DOOM (his most recent name change) is hardly “evil,” as he often describes himself. Yes, he may be a bit twisted, but demonic, never. Over the years, his characters have allowed him to explore the intimacies of life.

Le Mozart des pickpockets

Le Mozart des pickpockets (2006) is not exactly the stuff of drama and history like that other great French film about thieves, Robert Bresson’s 1959 classic Pickpocket. It’s not nearly as serious-minded, but it’s a light, understated film that follows two aging hapless thieves, Richard and Philippe, who happen across a nameless immigrant boy who they think is deaf-mute.
