Fleet Fox drummer and solo artist J. Tilllman recently performed a live set of new songs at Relix, including the post-apocalyptic “Wild Honey Never Stolen,” an acoustic piece full of biblical allusions and visions out of a Cormac McCarthy novel. The song is part of an upcoming limited-edition 7-inch record, Wild Honey Never Stolen / Borne Away On a Black Barge, of which the second track is a retelling of King Arthur’s last stand. Fashioning himself a mystic-poet, Tillman combines traditional folk storytelling with a world-weary outlook. The record features Bill Patton on ukulele and Tillman on guitar, piano, bass, mandolin, banjo and drums. →
The Bloggomist: The Local Boy
Music Opinion
About a year ago I posted on the Goodfight blog about an artist I had stumbled upon through a friend who was collaborating on a song with him. The name Bruno Mars meant nothing to me at the time and it was difficult for me to understand why so many jaws were dropping when people heard he was on the track. ”The world doesn’t know Bruno Mars yet,” he told me, “but anyone who works in the industry are already familiar with the name.” An afternoon and one MySpace later I knew exactly what he was talking about. ”The world doesn’t know Bruno Mars yet,” I texted him excitedly, “but it’s only a matter of time.” →

Combining live performances, texts and objects which all speak about, from and to the body, Gutted with guest curator Dino Dinco brings together a legitimate group of creative talent and illustrates numerous forms in which the body has influenced and been addressed by artists over the past thirty years. By looking at the changes and influences performance artists have had over the years, interpreted ideas and issues of our surroundings become evident. Many of the –isms, →

“Junie ( Léa Seydoux) is a beautiful 16 year-old girl who arrives at a new school after the death of her mother. Introduced by her cousin to a band of his close friends, Junie finds herself the subject of constant attention as the colorful group of boys woo her in turn. Eventually she strikes up a close relationship with Otto (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), the most gently-mannered of the bunch. Otto seems to genuinely care for Junie, but she soon falls in love with Mr. Nemours (Louis Garrel), her Italian teacher. Nemours is a charmer with a serious penchant for his students, driven crazy by Junie’s mysterious nature. A fresh adaptation of the classic novel La Princesse de Clevese by Mademoiselle de Chartres, THE BEAUTIFUL PERSON is director Christophe Honoré’s free and modern interpretation of the classic story of young love.”

The average Los Angeles household consumes up to 250 gallons of water per day. ”Water is scarce, and becoming more so. Climate change, population growth, changing dietary habits and economic development all exacerbate local water scarcities.” Yet many residents are unaware that a method known as “greywater system” can reuse up to 80% of this water for irrigation, saving 73,000 gallons of water each year. And what is “greywater?” Greywater is wastewater from residential sinks, showers, bathtubs and laundry.

Sebastien Tellier’s “La Ritournelle”
I apologize for opening with a rhetorical question, but in this case, it is imperative. If you live in Los Angeles or the New York area, where else other than Turntable Lab can you find rare records, DJ equipment- hardware, software, all the fixings and an added bonus- have your questions answered by experienced DJ’s? I thought Angelenos were in luck when the Lab first made its presence in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. But now, Turntable has gone digital.
