Tour Spiel: Dragonette

Dragonette – “Pick Up The Phone (Richard X Radio Version)”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Inspired by the Minutemen song, Evil Monito’s “Tour Spiel” highlights the musician’s life on the road. Each week, we’ll check in with some of our favorite artists touring stateside or abroad. We’ll provide an intimate look into what it’s like to be packed in a van or waiting for a flight with the same people for hours on end. It takes a certain state of mind to survive any lengthy tour. Yet it’s the memorable experiences that make life on the road ultimately rewarding, if not interesting. This week we heard from Martina, front girl of electropop group Dragonette, who hail from Toronto, Canada.

Valerie Beverly Hills

Brad and Angelina. Tom and Katie. Posh and Becks. We residents of La-la land are suckers for a dazzling dynamic duo. Luckily, Valerie Cosmetics knows how to craft a mighty fine team. Her pair of magical mascaras, Foreplay and Happy Ending, can be worn alone, but together leave you with a glam, bam, thank you m’am wink. Like any good A-List lead, Foreplay sets the tone—this time by adding length, while Happy Ending amps up the feeding frenzy with spectacularly lush lashes. The red-carpet ready look may fool the town into thinking you’re fixed on falsies, yet you won’t have to blink twice when flashbulbs ask if real. We wish we could say the same regarding the assets of all our favorite twosomes. Instead, we’ll just keep our lash-tastic eyes out for the stalkerazzi.

A Single Man

The Bloggomist: The Local Boy
Film Opinion

I’ve been sitting tentatively pawing this keyboard for the last two hours.  To be honest it’s been hard to sit still this weekend much less hunker down and try to write about anything remotely “cool” or interesting.  If you’ll allow me slightly more creative license this week, I might get a little personal before my review of Tom Ford’s “A Single Man.”  Friday night was an exhausting but incredible private dinner we hosted at OCLA with M.I.A. for Alexander Wang‘s new collection of sunglasses for Linda Farrow

Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams

The Bloggomist: Three Times a Trend
Fashion Opinion

As a long time lover of fashion I have experienced, as with any relationship, my fair share of grievances and complaints. The two main complications in our long term standing being the elitism that runs rampant throughout the business, and the all out obsession with labels and luxury goods. I’ve never understood the appeal of wearing a price tag on your arm, but then again I’ve never really had enough money to be able to flaunt it on my arm, so perhaps I just don’t understand the psychology.

Fungus Among Us

Fungi Fest 2010 in Echo Park
Machine Projects – Los Angeles, CA
1/16 – 1/23/10

With eight to twelve inches of rain in Southern California’s  forecast, now is the time to brush up on your mushroom identification skills.  Mushroom hunting is one of my favorite hobbies.  Gourmet mushrooms are pricey and finding a bag full of Chanterelles is liking finding delicious gold nuggets.  Just make sure you have a competent mycologist properly identify them for you.  There is a  real art to finding mushrooms.  They blend in with the leaves on the ground.  They can be right in front of you, but you won’t see them.
