The Beautiful Bering Sea

The Bering Sea is one of those magical and surreal locations, an enchanting ecosystem full of tufted puffins, endangered Stellar sea lions and humpback whales. Many tend to forget that an ecosystem is a product created by the dependency of every living species that is part of the ecosystem. Pollock- a small fish that is an essential food for tufted puffins, Stellar sea lions and humpback whales- are being kidnapped by the loads by massive industrial ships and spit back

Love Haiti

With thousands dead and missing, Haiti has been struck by a catastrophe which will test the world’s capacity for generosity and responsiveness. The 7.0+ earthquake has razed national landmarks and entire neighborhoods, caused the deaths of almost-unimaginable numbers of people and elicited both the goodness and evil in people.

Lifestyle Opinion

To say that “there is a dark side to the Internet” is probably the understatement of the 2010. Spending too much time online sometimes makes me feel like Dave Chappelle in his rendition of “If the Internet Was a Real Place.”

“Let There Be Horns”

RJD2 is due for a new record, The Colossus, and the opening track of the album has him at his most recognizable. Funky horns, guitar riffs and soulful beats take back the listener to RJ’s Dead Ringer period, but the album promises a more eclectic and expansive collection of songs that demonstrate his various musical talents. Directed by Thom Glunt, this latest video for “Let There Be Horns” features a pill-popping minotaur who’s down on his luck in contemporary human society. In other news, RJ is set to embark on a massive U.S. tour. If you visit RJ’s Electrical Connections, you can find a chance to win a pair of tickets to any one of his shows along with “The Colossus Deluxe Package” and a private DJ lesson from RJ himself.

The Posters Came From The Walls

The Posters Came From The Walls
The Cinefamily – Los Angeles, CA
1/29 to 1/30/10

Depeche Mode–like The Smiths, Michael Jackson or Insane Clown Posse–is a musical act that inspires such above-and-beyond devotion from its fans that to the uninitiated, the followers’ behavior seems otherworldly, like something out of a movie. But unlike the pompadoured Morrissey clones, the tearful MJ flock or the face-painted slaphappy “Juggalos” — Depeche Mode fans are all these things and more. Jeremy Deller and Nicholas Abrahams’ new doc not only dives into the juicy details of just how thoroughly the band’s fans can out-fan each other, but also how the band’s rise to popularity and the anti-Communist revolutions behind the Iron Curtain dovetailed

Body of Lies

The Bloggomist: Design in the Blood
Technology Opinion

Following recent consumer throwdowns such as Black Friday (where people are willing to kick a puppy to get a $10 toaster), Christmas and last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (a fittingly glitzy locale), I thought it a good time to question the misconceptions, or lack of um…conceptions…in regards to “green” electronics.

The Bloggomist: Why I Love DC
Food Opinion

Technology has certainly influenced our lives in ways beyond traditional communication methods. Social networking is no longer for just friends and families to stay in touch with one another but also a great tool for connecting local businesses to their customers. With the rise of new media, many entrepreneurs have started to use online social networking websites like Twitter or Facebook to engage with their market.
