Blank Space is pleased to present Bodywork’s annual exhibition: works by Korean designers who use unexpected materials and a mix of Eastern and Western style sewing techniques in their innovative clothing designs.

The title, ss[a:]m Art & Fashion Hybrid , refers to ssam , a popular Korean dish that people have long loved in Korean culture. In Korean the word ssam means bundle of cloth or mix of ingredients wrapped in cabbage. The most distinguishing feature of ssam is its hybrid character; that is, it boasts a unique Korean taste with a mixture of many kinds vegetables and meats. This year, Bodywork is inspired by the hybrid feature of ssam** in their designs of ‘clothing’ for the exhibition. The designs are characterized by their harmonious integration of past and present, tradition and modernity, and East and West, through clever uses of various design techniques and materials. The exhibition also aims to contribute to the growing status of Korea in the field of fashion.
