Venus Flytrap

Scientists at Northwestern University recently developed a synthetic material known as the “Venus Flytrap.” Composed of  “layers of gallium, sulfur, and anitomy compound,” this innovative matter captures nuclear waste much like the way a fly is baited.

Hours after presenting the Grammy for best rap/sung collaboration to Jay-Z, Rihanna and an absent Kanye West for “Run This Town,” Mos Def found himself in a familiar place on the Sunset Strip. Four days after The Boogie Man and The Roots had one of the most talked about pre-Grammy jam sessions, Mos Def was back on stage at the Key Club for his post-Grammy party.

Action at Barnsdall Park

Make Objects Make Marks

Make Objects Make Marks is a participatory work involving fabrication, assemblage, printing and drawing using salvaged and scrap wood. Artists Edward Pine Stevens and Joseph Stuckelman will create works on paper using simple printing and rubbing methods to record the process of transformation from scrap to sculpture, from part to whole.

Inlets – “Bright Orange Air”

Sebastian Krueger is the “bedroom troubadour” of Inlets, which plays folk music that is choral and classical-sounding, similar to that of another classicist, Owen Pallett (formerly Final Fantasy). “Bright Orange Hair” has an operatic air that’s gentle and subdued.
